Last weekend we completed our second RCN race of the season with the Xwift Racing BMW E90 325i of Pieter Denys and coach Gregory Eyckmans. We changed the car from BMW Clubsport Trophy to the so called V4 configuration, the production class in VLN.
For a few minor points of attention (windows, dashboard box, ...) we were moved to an other class, but this did not prevent us from testing the V4 setup with standard brakes, rods, etc to give us a good impression performance wise. Pieter and Gregory only completed a day of intensive testing and another RCN race prior to this weekend, which is the second of three RCN races they will do in order to obtain their "Permit B" so they can participate in VLN.

At the start of the race the starting driver needs to do his “set-laptime”, which has to be matched again as close as possible later in the race by both drivers. If the drivers are more than 10 seconds faster or slower they will be awarded penalty points. This includes possible yellow flag and code 60 situations, which makes it much more difficult then you would imagine. During the other laps of the race, the idea is to drive as fast as possible as the laptime will be turned into points as well. The car with the least points ends up winning the race in this regularity criterium.
Right before the scheduled pitstop halfway the race, Gregory even managed to tailgate the Adrenalin Motorsport car with two experienced VLN drivers (who are currently actually leading the championship in V4 and are 3rd overall in VLN) and improved his personal best to a 8.16.0 and this with the new V4 setup (with standard brakes). Pieter closely followed after the pitstop with his new personal best of 8.21.0, despite being hindered by a double-yellow flag situation (max 120kph) in Breidscheid.
The result after a bunch of double-yellow and code 60 situations was that Pieter and Gregory won their class by a big margin, a well deserved result for both the drivers and team as the car was running like a clock! Our next RCN race will be in two weeks time, before we head to Spa for BGDC.
